The Angels Return to the Outfield

By Anthony
Patrick is busy tracking the rare Hodag in the wilds of Wisconsin or something and cannot write a preview. He is making the person with papers to write and projects to finish the job of writing this game preview. Good thing he gave me no layout so I am going to freestyle this, should be fun.

So the last time we saw the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (Anyone else think this is the worst full team name in sports?), they swept us. Albert Pujols dropped some bombs and the pitching staff was less then stellar. Since then the Angels have taken off and are now in second place in the division and are over .500. The Mariners have been playing usual Mariners baseball and are now in a tight race with the A’s for a bronze medal.

The Match up
Jason “I finally tried to make Anthony like me” Vargas (6-4 3.45 ERA) vs. Ervin (I once threw a tomato at the guys from Jackass) Santanna (2-6 4.78 ERA)
I changed the nicknames Patrick gave him to something more palatable. If you can’t tell, the Mariners exist to gain my approval. Vargas is finally on this path, and has been the most consistent pitcher in the rotation. Suck it Millwood! He goes up against Ervin Santana, who based off those numbers has sucked this year. And looking at the numbers in more depth, that is confirmed. His two wins are against the Twins and A’s. When he has struggled, it has been because of a nagging home run problem and a lack of command.

How the Mariners can win
·      Score more runs than the Angels do
·      DO NOT ALLOW ALBERT PUJOLS TO HIT A HOME RUN
o   Or do other Albert Pujolsy things like driving in runs
·      Smoak just won the AL player of the week award
o   He needs to keep up this momentum he has at the plate and take advantage of some Ervin Santana meatballs
o   Also, Jesus Montero and Kyle Seager can have some Italian food too
§  But I bet Jesus would prefer his meatballs with angel hair pasta
·      See what I did there? Yeah, that was terrible
·      Dustin Ackley needs to step up his game
o   Since May 17th, he has been hitting .185
§  More like Brendan Ryan than the best hitting prospect in the 2010 draft
·      Mike Trout also shouldn’t be allowed to do good things
o   He is really really good
§  Like really really really good
·      I don’t know if you understand how good he is
My Prediction
Since Patrick always brags how good his predictions are, I will join the party and say the Mariners win this one 5-1. Jason continues to woo my heart like he is on the Bachelor and Ackley starts hitting the ball again
